Mumbai Indians bounced back in style with a clinical six-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad in Match 33 of the TATA IPL 2025 at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. A well-rounded team effort led by skipper Hardik Pandya helped MI secure two crucial points as they chased down a target of 163 with ease.

Bowlers Set the Tone

Winning the toss and choosing to field, Mumbai’s bowlers laid the groundwork for victory with a disciplined performance. SRH were restricted to 162/5, thanks to a fiery pace attack led by Trent Boult, Deepak Chahar, and Will Jacks, who all picked up two wickets each. Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya chipped in with one wicket apiece, ensuring the visitors never found momentum.

SRH started cautiously after Abhishek Sharma was dropped off the very first ball, but MI’s bowlers kept the scoring rate under control. Abhishek eventually broke free with a flurry of boundaries in the fifth over and ended with 40 off 28 before Pandya dismissed him with a sharp catch at deep point by Raj Bawa.

From there, MI turned the screws. Jacks removed Ishan Kishan, and Travis Head fell soon after for a sluggish 28. Despite a brief rebuild by Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen, SRH failed to accelerate. Boult returned to dismiss Reddy, and Bumrah bowled Klaasen just as he threatened to cut loose after a 28-ball 37. A late cameo from Aniket Verma (18* off 8) lifted SRH to a competitive total.

Rohit, Jacks, Surya Lead the Chase

Chasing 163, Rohit Sharma—playing as the impact sub—gave MI a fiery start. He smashed two sixes off Mohammad Shami in the second over and another off Pat Cummins before falling to the SRH skipper for a quick 26 off 16 balls. MI ended the powerplay at a strong 55/1.

Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks carried the momentum forward. Rickelton got a life thanks to a no-ball but was soon dismissed by Harshal Patel for 22. From there, Suryakumar Yadav and Jacks took control, targeting SRH’s spinners and racing through the middle overs.

Jacks showcased his power-hitting while Surya dazzled with his trademark flair. However, Cummins returned to disrupt the chase, claiming both in back-to-back overs—Surya for 26 and Jacks for a quickfire 36 off 15 balls—finishing with superb figures of 3/26.

Tilak and Hardik Finish the Job

Despite the late hiccups, Tilak Varma and Hardik Pandya calmly took MI over the line. Tilak’s composed 21 off 17 balls* sealed the win in the 18th over with a boundary. Will Jacks was named Player of the Match for his impactful all-round performance, with two key wickets and a vital knock during the chase.
