The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will resume on Saturday, May 17, with a high-profile clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru, the BCCI announced on Monday (May 12). The remainder of the tournament will feature 17 matches spread across six venues, culminating in the final on June 3. Details of the playoff venues will be announced at a later date.

In an official statement, the BCCI said the decision to proceed was taken after “extensive consultations with government and security agencies, and all key stakeholders.”

The revised schedule features only two double-headers, both on Sundays. The playoffs will begin with Qualifier 1 on May 29, followed by the Eliminator on May 30, and Qualifier 2 on June 1, ahead of the final.

While there was speculation about completing the tournament in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru, the board has instead selected Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and Bengaluru as the hosting cities. As a result, several teams—including Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Punjab Kings (PBKS)—will not play their remaining home fixtures at their usual venues.

Notably, CSK’s final league match, against Rajasthan Royals on May 20, will be played in Delhi. Similarly, SRH will play their last match, against KKR on May 25, also in Delhi. Neither team remains in playoff contention.

The previously abandoned match between PBKS and Delhi Capitals (DC)—scheduled for May 8—will be replayed on May 24 in Jaipur. PBKS will also play their other remaining games in Jaipur, as Mullanpur was not included among the resumed venues.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians (MI), still in the hunt for a playoff spot, will play their final home game at Wankhede Stadium against DC on May 21.

The tournament had been suspended for a week following the cancellation of the match in Dharamsala due to escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan. Many overseas players had already left India amid the uncertainty, and it’s unclear how many will return—especially with international duties approaching. There is particular concern over the availability of top players from Australia and South Africa, who are preparing for the World Test Championship Final starting June 11, just a week after the IPL concludes.
